FOOD.

Who doesn’t love it? I know I do.

Anyway, I’ve had a lot of that in the past 2.5 days, the reason being I was at a camp and they served buffet meals three times daily.

I didn’t think the food was amazing – I actually thought it had too much MSG, but if everyone else loved it, then maybe I’m just weird – but I still ate a lot. There were all those little pastries, and I like pastry because they look so nice. Too bad there weren’t many chocolate pieces.

I’m not sure why many Malaysians do this, but I saw lots of food go to waste, either because the person decided that what they had taken wasn’t good enough for their taste buds, or their bellies are stuffed all the way to the brim and they discovered that *gasps!* they had taken way too much food.

Wasted food

Regardless of whether or not this is a Malaysian thing, we really shouldn’t be wasting food if we can help it. What pleasure is there in stuffing yourself chockfull of food, till you feel like you weigh a thousand tons and you can barely stand to your feet? What good is there in eating like there’s no tomorrow, only to wake to a crazy stomach ache the next day?

And what is the point in taking more than you can eat, only to see it all go down the garbage chute?

People say I think too much, but I believe that we should think about things like this, and make a conscious effort to cut down wastage. Most people would say “Don’t waste! Think of the people who would give anything to eat the food you’ve wasted!”. I say, “If you keep throwing food out like that, pretty soon our landfills would overflow and we’d be living in a sea of rotting chicken bones and decomposing vegetables.”

That’s just my amazing imagination talking. But the point is, as long as we are able to, perhaps we should all try to cut down wastage, a little at a time. Myself included.

Food is a blessing we often take for granted. So start making sure your plate is sparkly clean when you’re through eating.
